Mike Fast has been blogging about this for a while, and links to a lot of really good articles. He's just about to post a how-to on his site.
Between his post last night, and a suggestion from a friend, I've punted a plan to do this all in C# and got the code from Adler's Baseball Hacks. PERL works, especially when the code is already done for you (almost). Ten years ago, I wrote spiders in PERL for a living, but this isn't making me feel younger.
Check out Fast Balls for the latest from Mike Fast on DIY f/x. Meanwhile, I'm working ahead of Mike's how-to (downloads are up to July now) and will have my MySQL db set-up a lot faster than I would've had I stayed on the SQL Server route.
btw....
