Carrie forges thru the Spring with shallow questions and bland prose, but at least we have prospect news today.
Josh Donaldson is training to be the next Michael Barret.
The young catcher prepped for this season by following a boxing regimen.
He'll be called up for the Cross-Town Series.
Jose Ceda is huge, and, no, Texas, you can not have him (idiots).
The other big pitcher in camp is Jose Ceda, who checks in at 6-foot-4, 205 pounds.
Petrick checks in at 6-6 240. Eegads.
And Lou is falling in love with Samardzija.
he's worked on getting the ball out of his glove much quicker, which gives him more consistency. He's starting to look like a professional pitcher.
Back to that comment above about Texas - if you didn't follow the link, here's what Colin found today.
For the Rangers to make this deal, they are probably going to want the Cubs' top pitching prospect, 21-year-old right-hander Jose Ceda or their No. 3 prospect, 23-year-old lefty Donald Veal. Veal pitched at Double-A last year. There are a lot of analysts out there who think the Cubs would be crazy to part with that much. But the Rangers aren't pursuing this trade; it's the Cubs. The Rangers are perfectly comfortable with Byrd in their outfield.
That is plain crazy. And this is in addition to Murton? Puhleeze. Sure, the Cubs are asking, but just say "go away" and have some respect.

It's hard for me to believe Texas asked for Ceda and Veal along with Murton for Byrd. I suppose it's possible in the same sense "anything is possible" but I don't believe it. The article you quoted is right in that it is the Cubs pursuing a trade so why not ask for more than you deserve, but I just don't believe whoever the Rangers GM is would be crazy enough to ask for that package. If he did that, he'd never get a call from hendry again and hendry would never call him back either without asking for similar returns in whatever he wanted.
I imagine the Rangers asked for Murton plus a pitching prospect, which is too much, but i refuse to believe they asked for Ceda, Veal, and Murton.
Are people really that crazy?
No, I don't read it as both pitchers - one + Murton (he says "or"). And the absurdity of it goes away if you think 4th outfielder for pitching prospect (maybe). But I just don't think that they're just asking for pitching here, as that hasn't been the story. All along, it was we offered Matt for Marlon, they asked for pitching in addition. But I agree, the request is so out of whack, and they know that, it may cross the line of professionalism - I'm not in that business, so I don't know what goes on.
Oh, ok. i was thinking they supposedly asked for both Ceda and Veal along with Murton. I could definitely see them asking for one of those two with Murton. They won't get it, but why not ask for it at first? It's possible this gets revisited at the end of spring training, but Hendry won't give up anything more than Murton.
if they want a top pitching prospect along with Murton, what about expanding the deal?
I don't have access to my BA handbook right now, but doesn't Texas have some decent prospects?
This won't happen, but it's something to talk about until we have baseball. Thank god it starts tomorrow.
Two words.

Count me in then. I'd give up Ceda or Veal to get him.
