PECTOA cards are out. Before I fully explore the new wonders they've added for 2008, here's some hi/lo projections for guys battling for positions this Spring.

Is it too late for me to say that JD Closser might be Hendry's best pickup of the offseason? If he remembers to use him, that is.

It's too bad Fontenot failed the switch to SS experiment as well. Either him or Cedeno would steal the SS job this spring. Without Fontenot, there's only 1 answer that isn't Theriot, vs. 2 if Fontenot (or even DeRosa) were able to play SS. Although, if Cedeno and Fontenot hit, they'll find their way into the lineup often enough, Lou's proven that in his first year as manager.

Fontenot and DeRosa could platoon at second. Too bad Patterson can't cut it in the infield, he'd be a nice utility IF/OF option.

I don't think that anything but sheer desperation on Lou's part lead to the Fontenot-at-short debacle. He has to have a minor-league scouting report on the guy available that can tell him that wouldn't work.

I just find it kind of amazing that Lou has forgotten about why he held off on Theriot's playing short for so long - it's not like he played so drastically well in the second half of the season.
