Updated: Full pitching line-ups
Cubs: Rich Hill, Eduardo Campusano, Kevin Hart, Les Walrond, Tim Lahey, Shingo Takatsu
Brewers: Dave Bush, Manny Parra, ?
Here's a quick look at Dave Bush. Using spin movement and speed, I come up with four pitches via k-means clustering.
| # | mph | pfx_x | pfx_z | SpinDir | SpinRate |
| 1 | 85.0 | -0.631 | 4.437 | 187.949 | 543.067 |
| 2 | 84.9 | -4.688 | 3.881 | 228.513 | 722.103 |
| 3 | 70.8 | 7.219 | -5.244 | 234.030 | 853.765 |
| 4 | 88.7 | -9.403 | 7.423 | 231.624 | 1461.003 |
All the following charts are from the catcher's perspective.
Here's every pitch in the data set (almost 700) by spin movement and speed (click to view the mph in the bubbles)
Here are they are again, now marked by cluster
Finally, the average spin movement plot by cluster
As you can see, he doesn't throw very hard and relies on movement - but what about location? Actual plate location (at y=1.4ft.) measured in feet.
You really can see his tendencies with each pitch. I should split 'em vs. lefty and righty hitters .... but this whole "Spring Ahead" thing makes it too late.
On the release points, all from y0=50, you can see everything is pretty tight, but the curve ball is already on its way up - similar to Rich Hill's. Bush's hard cutter does come from a little more towards the middle of the rubber, but not a lot.
This plot is actual ball position, relative to ground and middle of the plate/rubber, measured in feet.
