Just when I started to pull for the guy, Jason Marquis blows it - and I'm not talking about the way the threw today.
As far as Marquis is concerned, he isn't competing for a job.
"I don't look at it that way," said Marquis, who is in the second year of his three-year, $21 million contract. "Like I said all along, I'm out there battling the hitters and trying to get better day by day, and if they don't want me in the rotation here in Chicago, we'll go from there. We'll see what happens."
Entitlement doesn't go far with me. Lou's pissed.
"You know, that galls me about Marquis, it really does," Piniella said. "I'm not pleased with that comment at all. We've had a good camp over here, everybody's getting an opportunity to go out and win a spot in the rotation. Nobody's going to stand in your way. That's the easy way out."
Couldn't have said it better. Jason, you just got yourself a ticket out of town. Hope you're happy.

This, to me, is pretty akin to when Michael Barrett became a Padre. Barrett might not have known, but we all knew. I don't see how he stays on the team - he was already in a tenuous position before now.
Lou doesn't appreciate the boat rocking - no distractions, just baseball.
I actually don't think it's similar to the Michael Barrett thing. Let's keep in mind that several Cubs pitchers over the years Barrett was a Cubs told management they much preferred pitching to Blanco (and even Bako) than they did Barrett. Also, this was an actual fight.
Jason said some things he'll apologize about tomorrow and they'll move on. Happens quite often.
This is part of a bigger picture - signing Lieber, moving Dempster, "split contract", not pitching in the playoffs
If it was an isolated thing, sure, it would blow over, but I seriously doubt he'll be a Cub on the Ides of March.
I don't disagree with that, Harry. I think the Cubs have wanted to trade Marquis and probably were going to. I just don't think these events have much, if any, bearing on what will eventually happen.
You're probably right. It makes it easier for the media, though.
Lou deftly deflects the attention from Marquis.
"No, not at all," Piniella said. "I overacted to it and that's all there is to it. I'm human and when I'm wrong, I admit I'm wrong. I should've handled the situation differently. I recognized it after I said it, but what can you do? On the way home, I said, 'Well, I stuck my foot in my mouth.'
This garbage from Marquis is no surprise - as a Cardinal fan living in Georgia, I've seen Bipolar Betty blow off both Mazzone in Atlanta and Duncan in St. Louis - mostly because he figures he knows more about pitching than the two of them put together.
On a personal note, I'll be sorry to see him leave Chicago, though. Marquis staying in a Cub uni is about the only shot we've got to compete this year.
