The offense didn't make an appearance, as the A's beat the Cubs 2-1 earlier today. While I was at work. In meetings. Opening Day can't come fast enough.
Everyone pitched well, except Jose Ceda. Tennessee is a beautiful place, Jose. Enjoy. Unless he gets traded or hurt, I suspect we'll see him getting a real shot in 2009.
Jason Marquis did very well. He got seven outs on the ground, and gave up just four singles and one walk in his three innings.
Daryle Ward played today, and had an RBI double in the 4th. That was enough for the lead for the next few innings. In 8th, Jose Ascanio had to bail out Ceda, who was charged with two runs.
Aramis Ramirez is scheduled to play tomorrow. Hopefully he'll make the start.
Here are the "other" battles, which are already winding down, a bit.

I hope I'm right, and this is over and Pignatiello joins Eyre in the 'pen.

This is boiling down to a 3-way race between Ronny Cedeno, Mike Fontenot and Alex Cintron. Cedeno's edge is his lack of options, but his downfall, along with his performance, is, paradoxically, his trade value. Fontenot can hit righties but doesn't have the defensive skills to move around the infield. Cintron has been impressive, and is my favorite for the job. He only gets it if we trade Ronny.
