Post-game ST5 - notes and "other" battles

The Cubs managed a win, although Bob Howry made it interesting in the 9th against the end of the Mariners' bench. Makes me feel better about Marmol as my pick for closer. If you're going to have one guy, it would be him.

Ronny Cedeno went 3-5, playing all 9 innings in center field. He got thrown out stealing and picked-off, so he didn't really do himself any favors. He'll be an Oriole soon, so why worry.

Soriano may be worse off than it appeared initially, reports are the finger was more swollen this morning than they had expected. Aramis, meanwhile, is due back tomorrow or Wednesday.

Jeff Samardzija followed Lieber and Marshall, throwing two innings and getting credit for the win. Looks like he's a baseball player after all, a pitcher no less. We'll see him again in 2008, but not for a while.
