Hill Wild Again in Winter Ball

Rich Hill's struggles in Venezuela continue. I managed to catch an inning on LVBPTV and it happened to be his last.

Rich looked OK in the fourth inning, his mechanics look to have changed since last I'd seen him. The reach and tilt back towards 2nd base is much less severe, or so it appeared. His control, however, is still MIA.

Update in the 2nd, Hill had runners on with two outs. A horrific wild pitch - a curveball to the backstop on the fly - actually led to the final out. The ball bounced back to Hill up the line towards third a bit, and he got the runner at home on a flip to the catcher. In the first, Hill allowed a run on four walks.

When you read about how Hill improved his ERA (to 6.28), keep this in mind:

Sam Fuld and Ronny Cedeno contributed to a 9 run inning against Mariner's prospect Andrew Baldwin. Baldwin has a flat 4-seam and what looks to be a splitter or two-seam change that is actually pretty good. A cutter/slider rounded it out, from what I saw. Only one good pitch, but, then again, he was getting rocked.

As I write this, Fuld is at the plate. He grew a beard, still looks like a kid.

Checking on Magallenes, Angel Guzman is not on the mound tonight.

In Arizona, prospect Jesse Estrada got his third win of the Fall season. Five innings, five hits, two walks, one run, two K's. Donald Veal worked the 7th, allowing a walk and a hit.
