Fox's Ken Rosenthal thinks the Cubs could be interested in Rich Aurilia:
...as a backup at first and third base, but only if they part with shortstop Ronny Cedeno or second baseman Mike Fontenot
This is probably related to some type of trickle effect if Mark DeRosa has to be the everyday second basemen or rightfielder. It also indicates the Cubs may feel like they have their own utility/middle infield options in the system.
Aurilia was very tough on lefty pitching, even at age 36. In 2008 he put up 321/377/526 in 151 PA against southpaws, but just 263/308/356 against righties. His career splits aren't as drastic, and the platoon effect was there for Aurilia in 2006, but not 2007. In 2009, as a 37 year old, I'd expect those nifty platoon numbers to fade.

I would be surprised if the Chicago Cubs invest in Rich Aurilia. I can understand that the Cubs want a substantial back-up at the corners, but I don't see a mediocre 37-year-old athlete as the solution.
On another note, what do you think of the entire Tribune Co. bankruptcy protection filing? Although it may not affect the Chicago Cubs directly, it may have a toll on their organization since fans may be hesitant to spend money on expensive tickets.
Best wishes,
Marc

I don't think Cubs fans will ever be hesitant to shell out the cash. Not with what will be a contending team for a couple more years.
