I have an off topic question about pitch run values and their references. Is this an accurate statement for pitcher X's CH which has a rv of -0.23,
X's CH prevents 0.23 runs compared to the average CH.
So the reference is to the rv for an average CH and not the rv for all pitches averaged (CH, F2, SL, etc.)?
Furthermore, since pitch count is used to calculate rvs is it accurate to say,
X's CH prevents 0.23 runs, when thrown in either 0-2 or 3-0 counts, compared to the average CH thrown in either a 0-2 or 3-0 count, respectively.
But it is not necessarily accurate to say,
X's CH is equally as effective in preventing runs in 0-2 or 3-0 counts,
b/c the rv of an average CH in an 0-2 count != the rv of an average CH in a 3-0 count.
Hey - First statement should read "compared to an average pitch of any type"
Second statement is wrong, you'd have to do a count-by-count rv, basically unwind the methodology into something else to compare pitches on a specific count
Third statement I agree with, with the caveat of the disagreement with the 2nd, your bold part of #3 is right, just not the sub text.
