Samardzija Done for the Winter

Jeff Samardzija isn't starting tonight (although it may have been his turn) for Mexicali. As a matter of fact, he's no longer listed on their roster. Schlitter, Camp and Snyder are still there, but wtvr.

I checked Google News and, lo and behold, Cubs.com is already reporting it:

On Friday, [Thomas] Diamond, 26, heads to Mexico to join the Mexicali team and take pitcher Jeff Samardzija's spot on the roster.

No other mention of Samardzija in the article (which is about Diamond). I guess he got his innings in.

Steve Trout Suing Former Team

Ex-Cub pitcher Steve Trout has filed a lawsuit against the company that owned a team he once managed:

Trout says he was severely beaten during an onfield brawl between the Texarkana Gunslingers and the Corpus Christi Beach Dawgs of the Continental Baseball League. Trout, who managed the Gunslingers in 2008, says the team had inadequate security and fired him for "insisting that he be provided with a safe working environment."

The CBL certainly won't be taking Trout's side - they suspended two games him for the fight. Only Trout and two Beach Dawgs were issued suspensions.
"The CBL doesn't condone this behavior and any future similar on-field acts can result in a player and manager receiving a one year ban from the league," stated CBL president Ron Baron...."the type of conduct that took place on Friday night in Texarkana is not acceptable, nor is it consistent with our family friendly environment. Both organizations have been put on notice that future altercations will result in more serious discipline."

Trout was fired a week later.
