Tyler Colvin drove in the winning/only run of Monday night's series opener against the Padres. Carlos Zambrano and Tim Stauffer battled on a cold night. Neither offense could get going with a strong wind blowing in. Big Z was on his game, striking out 10 Friar batters.
Colvin's pinch hit double into the right field corner sent Geovany Soto scurrying home from first. The slow footed catcher was safe without a throw thanks to a missed cutoff man.
According to Bruce Miles, Colvin could be in line for the start on Tuesday night, with Kosuke Fukudome getting the night off to be with his expecting wife. Since 10,000 Tyler Colvin bobbleheads are being handed out, it would be a good time for Q to pencil in TylerMania™. Considering the cold weather on Monday for winter glove night, the Cubs would be wise to keep their line-ups aligned with the marketing and promotion schedule. It provided good luck last night.
The Cubs will face former Angel and Yankee Dustin Moseley on Tuesday night. A little younger and a little taller than Stauffer, Moseley has stuff that is much like that of his rotation-mate.
Moseley didn't pick-up his cut fastball until he went from Anaheim Los Angeles to the Bronx, so we'll need to break-down his pitch mix pre- and post-Yankeedom.
Relative to Stauffer, Moseley gets about the same number of ground balls, misses fewer bats, throws fewer strikes but gets more called strikes.
