Air Bronson

While plowing through PITCHf/x data for 11,000+ pitches thrown by Bronson Arroyo back to 2007, I remembered why his profile is always incomplete. Too many pitches, too many speeds, too many arm angles. I stopped short of dicing out his curveballs, so we'll just pretend they are all sliders.

Fastball, sinker, change-up(s), splitter, cutter, slider and curve. I mean slider and slider.

The man makes his living off-speed.

Arroyo is having a bit of a tough start to 2011, giving up more than one HR per start. But he is striking out more batters and walking fewer. All of these rates will regress, but it is odd to note he hasn't had this type of ground ball rate since 2007.

The wind should be blowing in today and the Res will start their third-string third baseman, so hopefully Arroyo will find that ground ball rhythm.
